The Annual Augusta Metcalfe

Memorial Art Competition, 2008

Goals:  To celebrate Augusta Metcalfe’s 127th birthday by encouraging:

            (1)   Develop art education among area students,

(2)   Provide an outlet and incentive to produce and perfect art skills,

(3)   Study and appreciate the way of life of local pioneers,

(4)   Study and appreciate the local flora and fauna.

 

Who Should Enter:  Elementary (5 -7) and High School (8-12), public and home school

When:  Entries must be at the Metcalfe Museum by 5:00 p.m. Friday, October 24, 2008

Topics (choose one per student):  (1) Pioneering Life

                                                                 OR

                                                       (2) Local Flora and Fauna

Medium:     (1) Black and White Drawing

                    (2) Color Drawing

                    (3) Painting

                    (4) Mixed Media

                    (5) Black and White Photography

                     (6) Miscellaneous

Prizes:  Judge will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each medium from grades 5 – 7 and grades 8-12:   1st - $25    ;  2nd - $15; 3rd – 10

Awards Ceremony:  Enjoy a fun field day at the Break O’Day Farm and Metcalfe Museum !  Parents invited also!  The Awards Ceremony will be held at the Break O’Day Farm near Durham from 10 – 2 on Friday, November 7, 2008.  The day will include a talk about the process of art judging, an art education activity, and a tour of the art gallery.  Bring your lunch and a drink. 

Winners will appear in the Cheyenne Star and will be displayed at the Museum through April, 2008.  All art will be returned to the student.  Non-winning entries will be returned the day of the awards ceremony.

Rules:  Artwork must be no larger than 10 x 12.

            Artwork must be matted with white mat board.

            Artwork must be ready to hang.

            Each student is limited to one entry.

            Artwork must be labeled with the following:

                       Title of Picture

                        Topic (Pioneer Life or Flora and Fauna)

                        Medium

                        Student’s Name

                        Student’s Grade

                        Student’s School
